Batting first, India struggled on the challenging track, posting a modest total of 137/9. Shubman Gill (39), Riyan Parag (26), and Washington Sundar (25) offered some resistance, while Mahesh Theekshana's three-wicket haul proved crucial for Sri Lanka.
In reply, the Lankans were also tested by the slow pitch, but Kusal Mendis (43) and Kushal Perera (46) kept their team in the hunt. However, a sensational bowling performance by India, especially in the death overs, turned the match on its head. Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Rinku Singh, and Suryakumar Yadav picked up two wickets each, restricting Sri Lanka to 137/8.
With scores level, the match was decided in a dramatic Super Over. Washington Sundar's exceptional bowling proved to be the game-changer as he dismissed two Sri Lankan batters in the first three balls. India needed just four runs to win, and Suryakumar Yadav's boundary off the first ball sealed the deal for the hosts.
This thrilling victory will undoubtedly boost India's confidence ahead of the upcoming challenges.
